When the rumours started flying around that Kawasaki were single-handedly re-inventing the lightweight sports bike genre, most people took it with a grain of salt. I must admit thinking, here we go again another fake story on the Internet. It had been around 30 years since the last 4-cylinder 250 and 400s had been in production, and the most we could hope for nowadays was a parallel twin. Kawasaki then shocked us all by not only building a 250cc for the Asian market but followed it up a couple of years later with a 400cc version.

We at TYGA Performance have been quite vocal about this gap in the bike market and have a passion for smaller sports bikes so naturally we really had no choice but to say thanks to Kawasaki, buy a bike and get busy making parts.

I wish I could say we rushed out and bought the first available bike that hit these shores but truth was somewhat different. We were busy working on other projects and the price of new bikes was prohibitive so we waited for the right used one to come along. We found this beautiful 2023 model year bike in almost new condition and totally unmolested on Facebook Marketplace. The owner lives only half an hour away and was an absolute pleasure to deal with. He arranged for it to be dealer serviced and even delivered by Kawasaki so you can’t ask for more than that! With a pristine bike and a space in our diaries we were then able to focus on the components you see here.
